Bernadette Bridges
Bernie Bridges (she/her) is an Atlanta-raised, LA-based writer and filmmaker.
Her work revolves around themes of gender, identity, and belonging, often through dark comedy and magical realism. She enjoys telling stories about flesh-and-blood characters that are visually bold, gently strange, and quietly affirming.
She is currently in development on her debut feature film, PLATYPUS.
Her latest collaboration, MONDAYS, an Adult Swim Smalls short, is set to shoot in January 2026. Her short film HOWL, a slice-of-life dramedy, premiered at LA’s HollyShorts Film Festival in 2023 and was selected as one of Kickstarter’s “Projects We Love.” In 2019, she directed the short play MALVOLIOS by Gracie Gardner for the Off-Broadway Rattlestick TheaterJam Festival.
Bernie received the 2019 Van Rensselaer Award for her poems “Knot to Self” and “The Poem Itself Could Be.” Her stories and poems have appeared in The Columbia Review, Quarto Magazine, and MidCult Magazine.
She received her B.A. with Honors in Creative Writing from Columbia University and currently works at USC’s School of Cinematic Arts in the Film & Television Production division.
